# Tracking your time

If your organization has enabled the time tracker for you, you can record the time you spend on projects and tickets. It's a simple way to keep an accurate log of your work and breaks.

## Is it available to you?

The time tracker is only there if your organization has **enabled it for you**. If you don't see it in the left sidebar, it may not be turned on for your account or your role. See [Getting started](/docs/member/getting-started) for how the sidebar reflects what's enabled.

## Log your work

You can track time against a **project** or a **ticket**, and you can log both **work time** and **break time** so your records reflect your day accurately.

There are two ways to log time:

- **Live timer** — start a timer when you begin, and stop it when you're done. Good for tracking as you go.
- **Manual entry** — enter time after the fact by recording the amount you spent. Handy for filling in work you didn't time live.

Pick whichever fits the moment — you can mix and match across the day.

## Protect your entries with a PIN

You can add a **PIN** to protect your time entries. Once set, the PIN keeps your tracker secured so your entries stay yours.

## Auto-lock after inactivity

To keep things secure, the tracker **auto-locks after a period of inactivity**. If you step away and come back, you may need to unlock it (with your PIN, if you've set one) before you can carry on. This helps make sure your timer and entries aren't left open on an unattended screen.

## Tips for accurate tracking

- Start the **live timer** as you begin a task so you don't have to remember the exact time later.
- Use **manual entry** to backfill anything you tracked on paper or in your head.
- Log **breaks** as well as work so your totals reflect real time spent.
- If the tracker locked while you were away, just unlock it and continue.
